Being your public self is harder than being your private self. The places you can be your public self is basically to the public. Some examples as to where you can be your public self are at work, school, and church. When you’re in public you have to worry about people impressions (for those who don’t know you), and their impressions are basically based on how you carry yourself as well as your physical appearance. Rather than being your private self when you’re around people who do know you, and because they already know you they know how you are.
I consider the two problematic because me personally I rather be my private self rather than being my public self. When I’m at school I don’t really talk unless is I’m participating, asking or answering questions, or even greeting the professor. The same thing goes as for when I’m at work I’m humbled I don’t really talk to none of my co- workers unless is work related. I just don’t want to get too comfortable with them I just do my job by greeting the customers with a friendly “hi”, and “bye”; if they want to hold a conversation fine but I don’t look for one. When I’m my private self I’m almost the same way the only differences is that I laugh, play around, and make jokes; because those are the people I’m used to those are the people I’m comfortable around. When in private I’m myself I’m comfortable.
Being your private self and being your public self exist for various reasons. You don’t talk to your boss the same way you would talk to your friend because at the end of the day your not working for your friend your boss is the one that pays you. That’s where respect comes in. In public you want to be respected therefore you’re going to have to give respect to get respect; because no one wants to be disrespected. You have to dress a certain way because you don’t want others thinking nothing of you. As to when you’re your private self you dress how you want because you’re comfortable with it. Your school attire is different from an interview attire or work attire. You dress any way you want to come to school because it’s your style, and is the way you want to dress. Where as going on an interview you have to dress to impress (ironing your clothes, wear the right shoes, smell good, always smile, have eye contact). At work you might have to do the same depending on your job you might even have to wear uniform. So you have to iron your uniform n smell good. Depending on your job you have to smile (even though you don’t feel like it). I’m basically saying being your private self you’re forced to do things that you don’t want to, and that’s uncomfortable for you. Your private self your in your own skin.
